I study connection as mediated and social phenomena. Whether it's by analyzing social networks,mapping social movements online, studying the lives of youth tethered to institutions, or labeled as 'disconnected', my work focuses on one central question: What does it mean to be connected at this moment?
Tara L. Conley is a doctoral candidate at Teachers College, Columbia University studying in the department of Communication, Media, and Learning Technologies Design. She is a 2013 Media Ideation Fellow and founder of MEDIA MAKE CHANGE, a media and technology incubator for innovative ideas and perspectives for social good, and founder and publisher of Hashtag Feminism (#F). Tara has written for various publications including Ms. Magazine,The Feminist Wire,EBONY.com, andHuffington Post. Tara has appeared on Huff Post Live, Fusion, and Al Jazeera America.
Research interests include older youth cultures (16-24), digital technology inequalities, digital media literacies, activism and new media, surveillance culture, mobilities, assemblages, and ethnography.
